Can my son apply for naturalization at the same time with me

Post by John2006 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 4:04 pm

I am going to appy for naturalization before April. I have already been living here seven years and held ILR for over a year. My wife also hold ILR. We have a six year old son who came to UK three years ago and was born outside UK. My question is: If my wife will not apply for naturalization can my small son apply for british citizenship (using form MN1) at the same time with me(form AN) before April so as to avoid the huge increase in application fee later?

Many thanks!

Assuming your son also holds ILR, the answer is yes. Only one parent needs to be applying for British citizenship, not both. And as your son is under 13, there is no residence requirement for him.

Don't forget the additional registration fee for the child - GBP200 before 1 April.

Who should sign the MN1 form?

Post by John2006 » Sun Mar 11, 2007 1:13 pm

Thanks a lot for your help. But I have another question here: Who should sign on the MN1 form if the child is only six years old? I could not find this information on the Guidance.
