questions regarding applying for naturalisation

Post by rogerroger » Tue Mar 20, 2007 10:02 pm

Hello,

My wife is about to apply for naturalisation. I had a few questions
1) Do we need to prove that we are married, if so how?( she is applying on the basis that she is married to a british citizen)
2) Does she need to stay in the country for a week or two weeks after the application has been submitted at the local NCS(I am sure it used to be one week when i applied)
3) Is it possible for her to book an appointment for the NCS without first having done the life in the uk test, she can sit for the life in the uk test and then turn up with the certificate. this was we can beat the 1st of april deadline.

Hi roger,

1) Yes you do. A marriage certificate is the usual proof. The NCS will photocopy it and give you back the original.
2) I believe she needs to be in the country on the day the Home Office recieves her application (God alone knows why, but still..) They usually receive it a day or two after the NCS appointment.
3) I booked my own NCS appointment before having passed the Test, so yes she can. Just so long as she has the certificate when she arrives at the NCS.
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten

thansk for the reply,

since our marriage certificate is in a different language, so i guess a translation will be ok

my wife has been told that she should be in the UK for 2 weeks following the NCS interview, is that a must or can she be in the UK for just 2 days as you mentioned since the home office will receive the application by then. we are planning to go home on the 12th day, so we are 2 days short.
