What's frightening is the way that ordinary black South Africans treat black people from other African countries. Most of the abuse against African migrants is committed by black South African officials with huge chips on their shoulders.
It doesn't make any sense when you think about the all the support that black Africans from all over Africa gave to the liberation struggles in South Africa during the apartheid years. That all seems to have been forgotten now.
For example Somali businesses in Cape Town are regularly torched and the Somali businessmen/women murdered by rioting local black people who perceive them as stealing their jobs. The irony is that these Somali businesses are actually creating jobs in the community for local black South Africans! And everytime a Somali businessman is murdered, all the South Africans who worked for him lose their jobs! This madness is repeated over and over again in all the major cities of South Africa. The very people who are creating jobs are accused of stealing them.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.
