can anyone help me.

my dad got his passport back today, but he applied for 1 yr course at college and send in passport and papers to Home office and they gave him 6 months whats up with that, what can he do, hes been here 7yrs doing degree course, they always give him either 1 or 2 yrs stamp in his book and all of a sudden they gave him 6 months.

Seven years to do a degree? How can u survive for seven years without working?

Sorry not answering ur question, just wondering.

I don't think there's much u can do, I think the visa folks base the length of visa on the state of ur bank balance, ie plenty of cash, long term visa. Did he supply bank statements with the visa app showing plenty of funds?

Other than that I've no idea...

To be fair, 7 years is a long time to be on a student visa. The fact that the home office gave him 6 months only might indicate that they've decided he's outstayed his welcome. Remember a student visa is not supposed to be a route to settlement and the Home Office might be suspicious about the fact that he's been here so long on a student visa.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

thanks for your replies, so what if the home office send him home, will there be any chance of him coming back, because if he goes he will be leaving me, mom and brother, and mom is here for 6yrs and me 5 and brother born in uk. at the moment he is trying to find a lawyer that will help him.

hes been doing business and it and the last exams he took he failed so now hes doing it again and they gave him 6 months.

oh i forgot, wanderer we are not dependants on his visa, him and my mom are seperate visas, I am dependant on my mom, because she has student visa and im her dependant.

So why doesn't he become a dependant on ur mum's visa?

we spoke to a lawyer about this and they said its too late we should have done it as soon as he got here, which was 7yrs ago.
