Application for British Citizenship Post October 2013 Query

Post by thunderb0lt » Tue Apr 02, 2013 9:19 pm

Dear All

I hope you can help with this query.

As I understand the current requirements for Indefinite Leave to Remain and British Citizenship is to pass the Knowledge of Life in the UK test or ESOL with Citizenship. For ILR it is set to change to Knowledge of Life in the UK as well as Speaking and Listenining at B1 level from October 2013.

What I want to know is whether this change will also apply for the Britizen Citizenship requirement too.

I ask on behalf on someome that has ILR and has had this status for over 30 years. If they wish to apply for British Citizenship post October 2013 will they also have to pass the B1 English Speaking and Listening with Life in the UK or will it be the same as it currently is, that is Knowledge of Life in the UK or ESOL with Citizenship.

I've searched the UKBA website but there doesn't appear to be anything that explains this situation with a person on ILR wishing to apply for British Citizenship from October 2013 and what the requirements will be.

Any help is fully appreciated.

Many thanks

It was expected to apply to citizenship as well but that has not been confirmed. As it stands the new test only apples to applications for settlement/ILR after October 2013.
