Both resident in USA, spouse UK citizen

Post by dijonmustard » Wed Apr 03, 2013 6:36 pm

My wife and I are both US permanent residents. I am of Pakistani nationality. My wife has a British passport. Can i apply for British immigration too while in the United States, or will i have to do this in the UK? I intend to apply for US citizenship once i become eligible and so think it will be cool to have dual citizenships of these two great countries 8)

You can apply to settle in the UK from your location in the USA. You would have to settle in the UK and live there for five years before you became eligible for British citizenship.

Thanks for your reply. It seems to be similar to the green card system in the US. There are residency requirements while on ILR in order to be eligible for UK citizenship. Good to know for the future in case our US plans change.
