Two Immigration Stamps in Passport

Post by miyoco » Sun Apr 01, 2007 5:14 am

In my current passport, I have two immigration stamps:

1. Leave to Remain expiring June 2008

2. Indefinite Leave to Remain (which I obtained in the midst of the aforementioned leave to remain).

I was wondering that since I now have the ILR stamp, does my Leave to Remain stamp need to be "cancelled" in some way in my passport?

My fear is that if I leave and enter the UK (before June 2008) and the immigration officer somehow misses my ILR stamp and admits me on the basis of the Leave to Remain, does that nullify my ILR?

I had exactly the same thing for a short while. It doesn't matter, there's no need to cancel anything. You can point this out to the bod at Heathrow/Gatwick if you want but it isn't really neccessary. Your ILR will not be nullified.

No, the more recent stamp (i.e. one confirming your indefinite leave to remain) effectively cancels the other one.

If on arriving in the UK there appears to be some confusion you can always point out the ILR stamp (make a mental note of what page of the passport it's on so you can find it quickly), but I doubt that this will be necessary.

What I always do is to keep my landing card on the page with ILR in my passport. Never had a problem at immigration. They open the page at ILR and its a breeze through immigration.
