Change of employer and job description

Hello,

I am currently on a work permit which is valid till 26th May 07. Currently I have been offered a job by another employer in another job role for which i along with other candidates were interviewed. The advertisment was placed on leading web sites also.

What would the process be for transferring the work permit and also applying for an extention to the work permit. Would i need to provide my documents and degrees again. Would the company need to apply for a fresh work permit. Also the designation in the new company is different from the job designation mentioned on my existing work permit.

Also what are the current time lines for the above process.

Any information would be helpful. Please can some of the senior members provide some guidance.

There is no such thing as "transfering" of a work permit. Every time you change employers your new employer will have to apply for a new work permit for you.

If the job title and duties of your new job are going to stay the same then the new employer will not have to prove that they could not find a UK or EU citizen to fill the position. Also existing work permit holders will not be required to resubmit evidence of their work experience and qualifications. This is just about the only concession made to existing work permit holders. Other than that, you will have to go through the whole work permit application process again. Once you have a new work permit you will then have to go to the Home Office yourself to apply for further leave to remain (FLR).

There is nothing for you to do as far as the application for the work permit is concerned. The entire application must be done by your new prospective employer. The length of time the application will take and the amount of validity of the work permit will vary depending on how many work permits your new employer has had before, how long your employment contract is, etc.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Many thanks for your reply and guidance.

My Leave to remain expires on 26th May 07. Now that my work permit is in processing, would i need to leave the country on 26th May 07 or am i allowed to stay till my work permit application is being considered.

Would appreciate any advice.
