New WP for moving to different Location in the same company?

Post by ibstechie » Tue Apr 24, 2007 11:04 am

Friends,

I am looking for clarification on Work Permit Rules & Regulation and your help/advice is would be of great help.

When I first came to UK my job was based in Glasgow. After a year I move to the London office of the same company and have been working for a year now. I am planning to move to a different company within a month or so. My Friend has advised me that I can be in trouble because ideally I should have applied for a new work permit when I move to the London Office of the company I was working with in Glasgow. Before moving to London I did check Rules on the Official Immigration Website and I couldn’t find anything regarding move between different locations.

My Question is - Do I need to apply for a new work permit when i move to a different location within the same company? Now when I go for Leave to Remain Approval are they going to refuse me the Visa on this basis?

Thank You.

After posting this request, I contacted Home Office and according to them I do not require a new WP but they suggested that Employer should have contacted HOmeOffice Regarding change of work location to update their record.

Any Suggestions?

I doubt the statement mentioning that you did not require a new WP , it might be that you have misunderstood their statements. If this is come from the HO I believe it might be from their call centre, try asking them again because normally you will get the diferent answer.

You need to ask your prospective employer to apply for a new work permit before you could start working. Indeed if you are doing the same job it is just administrative matter you will get it anyway. But you need to follow the procedure.

sorry for the confusion. The question I asked them was - If I move to a different location in the same company, Do i require a new WP. The Answer was if you are in the same company then you do not require a new one but the employer has to contact HO to update the situation.

My concern is when my new employer apply for a new permit and when I go to Croydon for WP Transfer they might ask me why I havent informed them regarding change of location.
