EU Spouse Schengen Visa Query

Hello,

I hope someone can help me. I currently hold an EU Spouse Schengen Visa (South African passport) and I'm finding it impossible to find out what kind of travel it covers. I know it definitely covers tourist visits.

If I want to do some unpaid volunteer work in one of the Schengen states can I travel on this visa or would I need to get a business visa?

Where do you and your spouse reside? Is your Schengen visa a residence permit by virtue of your r/ship with your EU spouse? Or is it a Schengen tourist visa strictly meant for just that - tourism?

If the former, I believe you can contract (temporary/unpaid...) work in any Schengen state for the period of its validity (w/out breaking residence in the member state where you are habitually resident of course); if the latter, then no, you cannot.
