NZ Skilled Migrant Visa

Post by scrudu » Thu Sep 14, 2006 4:41 pm

Hi there,

i have been looking at applying for NZ Skilled worker visa. I was previously refused the same category of visa in Australia as I was deemed to be missing a 10 days work experience in the 18 months preceding my application.

One of the questions on the NZ application is "have you ever been refused a visa for a country". Should I answer yes? I guess truth is the best policy, but I would hate to have that count against me in any new application!

Thanks for any advice

.

Let's examine logically.

If you answer honestly, you will have a place to provide details. Very concisely, you can state "Previously applied for Australian visa class ______ and lacked 10-day experience requirement in 18 months previous to application."

Good idea to name the specific visa you were turned down for, assuming the NZ application doesn't specifically ask for it.

Maybe this is a mark against you, but stating it in such a way or similar wording really downplays the situation truthfully. Technical requirement not met.

No biggie.

So, let's say instead that you less-than-truthfully check 'No.'

NZ is a small community, and they are tightening their immigration & visa checks dramatically. Maybe they'll catch, maybe they won't. Bad assumption in westernized countries to assume your passport / other ID won't turn up.

So, if they do catch you, now you will have to check ''Yes'' on all future visas.

And, the reason for denial on one of those rejections will be "fraudulent answer to this specific question."

Your life. Do what you wish, but that's a heavy risk to gamble on.

My humble, personal opinion.

G'D Luck!

.

You need to have enough points to qualify as a skilled worker, in a skill that New Zealand is looking for.

This is a good place to start:

It's not the only one, but it's ours, so I am selfishly promoting it.

to Admin: Thanks for the advice. I appreciate the logic and will be frank in my application if i do apply. I guess it's up to them to decide whether to hold it against me or not!
