Time line till Naturalisation?

Post by Redtape Hater » Mon Apr 30, 2007 1:33 pm

I am trying to make up a timeline for the process to Naturalisation. Can you take a look at it and tell me if its right.

Student visa: Sept 2007 - Sept 2010
International Graduates Scheme: Permit-free employment for up to a year
Work Permit: Sept 2011
Apply for ILR: 2016
Apply for Naturalisation: 2017

How long does naturalisation take?

Whilst it is a very good attitude to plan for the future, I think you're setting up too much expectations. In 10 years time, HO might have done a lot of changes with the immigration law so I dont think it very realistic to think that you will get your ILR by 2017 (I just hope I am wrong).

Mind you that for the past few years, radical changes have been introduced and I think this will continue for the succeeding years.

Hahah! Brilliant! You're just like me! Planning, planning, planning....so you already know you'll pass your degree?! hehe
How you do know you'll secure a WP? Do you think the BIA is a static agency?! This is a good plan, you'll need to work your socks off, but don't be too hasty. If things change it's back to the drawing board. Just focus on one thing at the time...isn't it your exams period now?

Hi
Yeah I am trying to come up with a rough plan of everything but there are still a lot of questions I can't answer. Like the new SEGS/Intl Graduates Scheme. If you are allowed to work permit-free for a year and in that period you work with an employer who likes you and agrees to apply for a work permit for you, will that employer get the WP easily because you've been working with him for a year? Or will he have to prove no one else in the EU could do the job, like the old rules?
So confusing.

Yes, that's right..work permit application is not that simple..even if the employer wish to employ you, they have to go through a process where they have to advertise the position. If they can prove that they cannot find someone who does not require work permit then that is the only case where they can possibly get you a work permit. Otherwise, it will be very difficult I suppose.
