Interested in moving to america from england

Post by Bren86 » Fri Mar 09, 2007 6:35 am

Hi everyone. I'm 20 year old male and was born in england and have lived here all my life so far. I would like to immigrate to america but I'm not sure what the right qualifications I need have to be classed as a professional as I heard that you have to be a working professional to immigrate to america. For example a nurse, electrician etc

Well I know I'm not classed as a professional worker at the moment but I'm currently at college studying computers and plan to do another year course after this one also. I've also done many computer courses in the passed but just minor qualifications. Is there a certain qualification I need to have in order for me to immigrate to america.

I don't plan on going to university so what would you recommend I look into weather it be a different more easier career path to be classed as a professional or any certain qualification I should aim to get in computers.

Thanks for your time, looking forward to some helpfull replies.

Bren

I am sorry, but without a university degree you have very few chances indeed of being granted a work permit which may allow you to settle in the US. See here.

Hi. I don't want to work temporary in america. I want to work there and live there forever. The reason I don't want to go to university because the job I plan on doing is some sort of computer technition which dosn't require degrees as you can do short computer courses and then would be able to do that job just fine as its not to hard if your into that sort of thing.

So is a computer technition or repairs person not classed as a qialified professional job in america. In england you don't need a degree or whatever to get a job as a computer technition. You could do 2 years in college and be fully qialified to do the job. If I was to go to uni I would aim higher than being a computer technition but I don't want to aim higher. I'd be happy enough being a computer technition in america.

I just thought I could apply to be a computer technition in america and when I get a job I planned to just move over and live there and work. I know its not that simple but thats kinda my plan but its what I want to do.

Thanks

Unfortunately the H1B visa is for highly skilled people or those working in some special professions (registered nurse, occupational therapist, etc). As a computer technician you wouldn't realistically have any chances. Even computer programmers with a university degree are finding it difficult to emigrate to the US these days. You could try to find an American girlfriend, and if one day you get married you may be able to apply for an immigrant visa.

Ok well thats very disapointing to know.

What about the H-2B visa (skilled and unskilled worker) I did abit of research and I understand that its for work that is under 1 year. Also can that employer only recruit you just the once. After the year could I apply for the visa again while in america or would I have to go back to england then re apply for the visa again then find new work with a new employer.

Also if I was in america on a H-2B visa and happend to meet a woman and married her or had children would that greater my chances of staying in america permantly. If one day I was able to apply for an immigrant visa would that allow me to stay in america permanantly.

The process seems very time consuming and not very garenteeing. Would you say this is the only option for me or can you recommend anything else I can do to get to america.
Anyway of staying for more than 1 year at a time etc because staying for one year at a time and getting married might not work wouldn't they class that as fraud or something.

Thanks for your help.

^bump

Well can anyone recommend me anything please. I finish college in 2 weeks and plan on working here in england to save money but I really want to atleast try it out in america. Is there anyway I can just do non profressional work like laboring for some building contracters etc I guess I will have to deal withit being temperary but I never know maybe I do meet some nice female there. Also could I apply for jobs that may need for me to be trained to do which will make me qualified in that job in america for example working as an airconditioner. Could I apply for any type of aprentiship in america. I feel like a change in life and scenary.

HI Bren
Go to this website
http://www.aipt.org/
It helps young people get visas in foreign countries
Usually it is based from your university work but it might help you out.
I used it to go to france from the usa and after you get in a country it makes a difference to employers as it shows your interest in their country and they are more willing to make an effort after you had made an effort to get their on your own
Good Luck
