Net pay Vs Gross pay

Post by sbt1 » Sun Aug 18, 2013 12:06 am

Hi,

I'm applying for Tier 1- General extension(1st) and just wanted advice regarding earnings claimed. As per guidelines points can be claimed for Gross earnings but my proof of earnings (i.e 12 month's bank statements and payslips) show net earnings (after tax).

I'm a bit confused as someone told me his initial application was refused as he provided payslips and bank statement showing net salary credits while claimed for gross earnings. Can I claim for Gross earnings (on application form) and show proof for net earnings? or do i need to show any other document to support?
(I'm providing bank statements and payslips for 12 months + employers letter as proof)

Secondly, my salary is paid into my account in the following month..July's salary paid into bank on 2nd August i.e pay slip and bank statement dated 2nd August but salary for the month of July. I hope it does not create any problem.

Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks!

And why don't your payslips show gross income / salary?

**error**
payslips show both gross and net earnings after tax but Bank statements show only Net salary paid in after tax.
So I am claiming points for Gross salary as per payslip but showing proof of earnings from bank statement which shows net salary after tax.

Have you ever heard of a bank statement reflecting "gross" payments?
Do you think a bank statement can reflect credits for money that is over and above what is actually paid to you?

I know it sounds stupid and i understand that bank statement will always show lesser amount (net salary after tax) but as i mentioned my friends initial application was actually refused on the basis that gross earnings claimed did not match with the value on bank statements (net salary after tax)and he had to re-apply and add some tax documents to support application.
I just to want to make sure that it won't be a problem in my case for extension.

I believe you are a mature intelligent person - do you think that statement makes any sense?

How can "gross earning" match "net bank credits", unless gross = net!!!

I do not agree with that statement either but that was the exact statement made on refusal letter by case worker but you cannot argue with them.
I just hope my case worker is intelligent enough to understand this!!
