Moving to US asap

Post by Arla » Fri Jun 01, 2007 9:47 am

I want to move to the US asap. I'm British and my husband's American, and I'm pregnant. I would like to move before I hit the 3rd trimester so that I can have the baby in the US, but that only gives me 4 months to sort out all of the paperwork. Is it possible to travel to the US on the visa waiver program and file for change of status when I get there? If not, how long does it take to process the immigration and K3 forms? TIA.

You could try, but you may have trouble later if they realise you entered the US with the intent of staying there. In the following forum you may find more people who can give you advice:

By the way, giving birth in the US can be very expensive.

Thanks Marco. I have health insurance in the US already, so giving birth there isn't a problem. The only problem I have is with the visa!

K3 takes currently 6-9 months (but it can take to 12+), depending on where you do. I assume London? How long ago you filed your paperwork?
"Waiting for namecheck" since 2007.

We haven't filed the paperwork yet, that's why I'm asking if it's possible to file in the US after travelling using the WVP.
