OCI v/s PIO

Post by Sushrut » Sun Jun 03, 2007 8:31 am

Sorry if this appears elsewhere (I have looked but I can't find any info)!

I am a naturalized British Citizen (previously Indian Citizen). The dilemma was wether to go for PIO or OCI.

I have heard rumours that if I aquire OCI, when in India, the British Consulate will not "look after" us if in trouble. Are there any other disadvantages to OCI?

Thnx in advance

Not quite sure what you mean by OCI firstly.
Secondly I was under the impression that Indians are not allowed dual nationality true or false.
Thirdly BC naturalised or not if you are British you are always under British protection.

Person of dual nationality, if you are in the country of one of the nationality, the other nationality will not intercede on your behalf

Siggi

OCI = Overseas Citizenship of India

My main query was the third point you raised which has been answered in the sticky posting. To summarize the advice - with OCI one will be considered "Indian" in India & British everywhere else by the British Govt.

Thanks all.

They know that, SYH. The question relates to the fact that OCI is not a real citizenship, at least not in the ordinary sense of the word.
