Hi All,

Please go through the below link.

In the past dailymail has published articles about the impact of immigration on social services. This is the latest one that is raising doubts because Immigration Minister himself has said about "forming a Migration Impacts Forum that could decide number of work permits granted every year for NON-EU nationals in consultation with teachers, doctors".

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... _a_source=

Some other articles that were published by it from the start of this year(2007) are:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/a ... ge_id=1770

With teachers included in consultation, I strongly believe there may be trouble brewing for immigrants dependants (mainly children who have little or no knowledge in English) and restrictions on other social services like NHS,Housing etc.

In continuation with my earlier mail,I found this article in IND website.
http://www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/6353/a ... _final.pdf

Of particular interest is paragraph 3.20 in page 12 about visitor visa.

Changes proposed in visitor visa category includes that a family member should be sponsered by a person 'holding British citizenship, EEA nationality, the right of abode in the UK or Indefinite Leave to Remain'.

I am not sure what this right of abode means. Most of Asian families bring their parents either to look after their child (during child's birth or afterwards) or since they have the norm of joint-family in their country. In future only after getting ILR (Currently 5 years. But going by HO's trend it may be increased.) or citizenship they can call their family member.

Most of immigrants come here to earn money. From salary NI is deducted by Govt automatically for the social services you utilise and return some of them free like school, NHS etc. Private schools are beyond the reach of ordinary people. Point to note here is NHS is free even for family visitors depending on individual cases.

Ofcourse Govt is proposing changes in that. Some social services are pushed to the breaking point because of huge influx of immigrants as per links in my earlier post. Till now immigrants cannot claim benefits. In future it may become like immigrants cannot utilise free schools or free NHS.You need to pay and use it.

I also notice HO's point of thinking. Make immigrants or their dependants not to utilise the services or dont allow them to enter into the country.

HO has planned to implement it by 2008-09. (Refer page 25)Dont think that you can escape if you apply before that date because HO has the tendancy of applying any rule retrospectively.

You posted this twice. Duplicate postings on this board are not appreciated and accordingly the other one has been deleted.

As regards what you have posted, what are you trying to prove? That the Daily Mail has an anti-immigration stance? If that is the case, well it is hardly big news, is it!

Suggest you also look elsewhere so that you can form a more balanced view.

I think the issue of sponsorship is a very relevant one - the invitation route for UK visas is very common so this will be a very clear attempt to deter potential immigrants.

I am not sure what this right of abode means.
The right of abode is the status held by all British citizens, but there are also some residual groups of non-British-citizen British nationals and Commonwealth citizens who have the right of abode under the 1981 Act and who, barring a change in the law or loss of their Commonwealth citizenship, will hold this right for the rest of their life. (Main groups are Commonwealth citizens born to a UK-born mother before 1983, female Commonwealth citizens married at some time before 1983 to a man with the right of abode, and British subjects with a connection to the Republic of Ireland.) Since 1983, the only way to gain the right of abode has been to become a British citizen, so these are residual groups, as I say.

People with the right of abode are entirely free of UK immigration control, can have no time limit imposed on their stay in the UK, and can have no restrictions of an immigration nature put on what they may do in the UK. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens do not have the right of abode: although not subject to routine immigration control, there are circumstances in which they can be denied entry to the UK or can be deported.

Well, leaving all that daily mail thing aside, defenitely it is news to us all that one can sponsor their family (parents etc.) to visit UK only if the sponsor himself is a UK settled person (Citizen, ILR etc.). That is aobsolutely a news that we have not heard here in this forum so far:-)

Which western country has this sort of rule to compare against, i don't know! :-)

In other words, UK govt. wants immigrants to integrate well with a totally new British society, but they want the immigrants to not bring their parents and other family members to UK to enjoy with them, even as tourists!
I can only laugh at this style of integration theme! Quite appalling!

But of course, I do sympathise with the govt. on their stand on detterring immigrant's family members entering the country who tend to abuse the visitor visa route... but making it a general law to avoid any tourism sponsorship by immigrants, is actually assuming every immigrant is an abuser - and that bit is complete rubbish!

The idea of generalising that everyone is bad - just because some are bad, is a horrible idea! One should never generalise things!
