Rejected UK visa, becoming US citizen, what are options?

Post by Nubianlove » Tue Jun 12, 2007 8:48 pm

Hello everyone, I'm currently a green card holder of the US, last yr I was rejected for fam visit visa for 1 week trip because of issues with my passport. My country had canceled several passport #s and didnt inform the public, so I applied, and the UK consular office, seized my passport. I did an appeal and even got a brand new passport through my country's US ambassador directly and the consular officer still rejected it, and had me send an appeal to the AIT.
I mailed it off, it took a yr for them to send a decision, and the appeal was dismissed.

Now I'll be getting my US citizenship in less than a yr, and shortly after that I'll be getting married. My new US passport will have my new married name. What are my options, can I use visa waiver?? With my new name and citizenship, how do I appeal old application? sigh all this is much too complicated, I'm perfectly happy in US, just wanted to have an option to be able to go to london for a few days to see some family and friends there every now and then. :(

Thanks

Once you have a US passport I see no reason why you can't visit the UK as a tourist. You don't need to volunteer your previous experience unless you're asked by Immigration (or on the landing card), or if you ever apply for entry clearance.

Others may have their own opinion on this.

Strange reason for refusal. Never heard of it before. If the your passport failed the Forgery Check, they should have brought it to your attention and asked for a valid document but that should not have been the reason for refusal of the entire application itself prior to sorting out the issue and jumping to any conclusions. I would be interested in seeing how the AIT's judge commented on this.

Anyway, as JAJ said there is no reason for you to worry once you have your US passport, although the UK authorities may still have your name on their warnings list depending on what exactly happened in reference to this passport issue. It is difficult to tell without knowing the details.

I have heard of such an issue. Some batches of Passports were declared by the Government to have issues and they communicated this to various embassies, and the holders of such passports were not informed of the decision. That caused a lot of problems for the holders who had used their passports to travel or wanted to obtain visas as they were denied entry into some countries as well as denied visas on application.

It is surprising that despite obtaining a new passport, re-applying and filing an appeal, it was dismissed. I do not think that you will have issues visiting the UK when you obtain your American passport.

Yes they actually seized the passport and said they had to return it to my country's consulate and that I should contact them for more info.
It was only afterwards when I got the denial in the mail that I realized something was wrong, mind you I had used this same passport within the past yr to travel internationally 2x too!

The officer even with a new passport said that he wanted to know what the real issue with old one was, I said that truthfully I didnt know any more than he did  I mean even the head of passport services for country's consulate issued overnight new passport, and that wasnt enough for him.

Oh well, yeah my citizenship processing will be complete within the yr, and since I'm not sure if there is a name list, I'll just wait till I get married which is also within the next yr, and use my married name on my US passport. No UK travel for me for another 2 yrs :P

The reason that you could use the passport to travel was that they had not been declared cancelled at that time. It was only when the passports were cancelled that yours popped up on the screen in the embassy as voided.

Just exercise some patience and it would soon be over when you get your US passport.
