Working parents in UK

Post by hsmp07 » Thu Jun 14, 2007 1:02 pm

Hello, I must say that these boards are extremely helpful, I have been able to get my HSMP approval by the valuable suggestions received on this board.

I am planning to apply for EC next month, after that hopefully I am planning to go to UK in August. I am an IT professional, my spouse is also an IT professional, and I have a child who is 3 years old. My spouse also would like to work in the UK, but we both understand that with a child to look after, it is not going to be easy. I wanted to know what are the options for working parents with children in UK. I know my child will be starting school there, but I still do not know what will be the timings. I know there is going to be a lot research when we reach there, and we will have to work around the way that best suit us, but of course our child comes first.

I would like to call upon all the people who are residing in UK, and are in similar situation, how are they managing? Your valuable suggestions are most welcome.

There are essentially 3 types of childcare, other than relatives. Nannies (come to your house, or live-in, great but very expensive, figure on £25,000 post-tax income), childminders (in the minder's house, several children, often £3-4 an hour) or nurseries, professional establishments.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.
