Travel date on fiance visa application

Post by Catty2007 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 9:57 pm

I recently submitted a fiance visa application and Fedexed it to Chicago. On the form it asks, what date do you plan to travel? It doesn't give you anything but a place to put a date in. I need to get back as soon as possible, because my fiance is ill and there are other reasons also, but I didn't know what date to put there, because the answer would be "As soon as I receive your response!". I was told that for the US it takes around 5 working days, so I just took that into account, plus the two days that it would take them to get it, added that together and guessed and gave them that date. I received an email from them Friday saying they have received my application. They say they are busy at this time of year and take the date one needs to travel into consideration when going through the applications. For this I am glad that I put Friday, June 22 and I wasn't trying to be devious...I really do need to get back soon because the only place I have to stay while waiting is with my daughter, who will be leaving on vacation soon and said I have to be gone by then. I was wondering, what happens if it takes them 10 working days to make their decision? How important is the actual travel date I put on there, do they give you any leeway, like a grace period, if you actually were leaving even a day or two after that? I don't even know what the things they will be sending me will look like and how it all goes, is why I'm asking. I called the Consulate, who use an outside agency for answering questions and the woman on the line was no help at all, I don't think she had a clue as to what I was trying to ask. I'd greatly appreciate an answer to this soon :)

Don't worry. If they grant the visa (which is a sticker pasted into your passport) it will be valid for 6 months from the day it is granted (or maybe from the intended date of intended travel if that is what you asked them to do in your letter accompanying the form).
