Max visa time for visitor (parents)

Post by shin25 » Sun Nov 24, 2013 5:37 pm

Hello Gurus,

Can some one please shed light on what would be the max time family (visitor) visa is given? I am aware of max 6 months but I have also heard that some people do get around an year? Is it true? If yes is there a specific case that needs to be created before I apply for the visitor visa?

Regards,
Shin

You can apply for a 6 month, one year, two year, five year or ten year visitor visa. However the maximum time per entry is 6 months.

It is also unlikely that a longer visa would be granted on the first try without a compelling case.

There used to be guidance that anyone staying for more than 180 days in 365 was not a visitor. That guidance has been removed but remains the best yard stick for lengths of visit.
