Conned by UK NARIC

Post by mustang390 » Fri Nov 29, 2013 11:09 am

Hi
My Wife's spouse Visa application was rejected because of Not meeting the English Language requirement despite the Master Degree was taught in English and gets 35 points on Point Based Calculator Calculator and also attached the letter from uni stating the course was taught in English and also submitted UK NARIC comparability statement.

But to lodge an appeal I decided to apply for English Language proficiency certificate from UK NARIC and Today they sent the certificate after 3 weeks of painful waiting and which says " The Level of English Language for the above degree course does not meet the requirement for the CEFR level C1"

But We only needed B1 not C1 for spouse Visa.

I called them for information before sending the application off to UK NARIC and the guy on the phone said yes we can do it, and now when I called to get the explanation they are saying we cannot asses the Degrees below C1 CEFR, you should read small prints. we only do C1 and above assessment.
which means they are totally useless and Home Office should guide them on requirements.

It means I wasted 3 weeks and £60 to get two pieces of papers from UK NARIC. (Do Not Use UK NARIC)

Spouse visa requires A1 not B1. The English Language Assessment with the Statement on Comparability will suffice as 1. The ELA should still say the degree was taught in English even if not to C1 and 2. The SoC confirms it's comparable to a UK degree.

Yes Sorry it was A1,
SO If I submit the UK NARIC ELA with the appeal should that be fine ? don't you think they might consider it as new evidence and ask for fresh application etc ?

UK Naric are not immigration advisors, and hence do not need to be guided by home office. They clearly mention what they do and what they provide.

On their English language assesment page, they have mentioned clearly and unambiguously that

UK NARIC's English Language Assessment provides an assessment and a statement:

to confirm whether an individual's approved English language test meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1)
to confirm whether your degree has been taught in English and meets the required level of English language proficiency (CEFR level C1).
