Dependents Visa

Post by cjh234 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 7:08 pm

Hello,

I am trying to sort out all of the information I have read about bringing a dependent to the UK through a student.

To start, I am American and she is Indian. We legally married in Taiwan in July. She is currently in India teaching and working on her proposal for 2013 Doctoral (Business or Marketing) programs in UK. Once accepted, it is our hope to be together in UK.

I know she qualifies to bring a dependent since she will be "sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at NQF level 7 or above which lasts 12 months or more." Even though she passes this qualification, there appears to be a number of other requirements we will need to prove on the application form.

1. Proof of marriage - We have our marriage certificate from Taiwan, is this sufficient ? I also noticed a statement on the application form about both spouses having to be from the same country?

2. Bank Statments in joint name - is this manadatory? I have sent her money, but we do not share an account since we are in different countries at present. Should I set one up?

3. Council tax/utility bills in joint names - is this mandatory since we are living apart?

I guess my main question is what information is required to show that we are married? Is living apart an issue?

I know there is also a monetary requirement of 600 Pounds per month, up to nine months, which is not an issue.

Any help or insight in to the process would be appreciated. Thank you!

1 requires the marriage cert but you do not need to be the same nationality. Strong evidence of interveving devotion is essential.

2 and 3 are not required so I wonder where you are sourcing yiur information. Here is the official source

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/visas ... -students/

I think it would be best to read the guidance and then ask questions on what is not clear.

Thank you for your fast response.

I read the information on the PBS Policy Guidance page here: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... olicy1.pdf , but looking back, 2 and 3, may only be for Dependents of Migrants, not students. My apologies.

You mention devotion, what information should be provided to prove this? Is it beneficial to include Skype, text or phone logs to each other?
Having a joint bank account would show this as well, yes?

Again, thank you for any help you can provide.
