Do you have to let them know ? Any detrimental effect if you dont?

Why? Why would any one have to be told? Please clarify what you mean. Unless you're talking about moving from a WP/HSMP to spouse visa/UMV but even then, why should they be told??

I don't know about *have to* let them know, but I would, since it is a change in your personal circumstances. Is there any particular reason not to let them know?

Well, if it was that they were going to offer you a new, better (paid) role, but were worried about your WP, then you can say/show them your spouse visa and explain that you are no longer restricted to the job your WP was given for. Fine.

But for tax purposes?...nothing else changes. Absolutely nothing. Tax isn't dependent on your visa, but on your working hours and type/s of job. So, really, you don't need to inform them unless it is specifically related to the length or type of job you're doing.
