Applying Work Permit

Post by mgkoko » Sat Jun 23, 2007 7:41 pm

Hi everyone,

I've been to London for a year with a student visa which is valid up to 2009 and also eligible for work permit.
Now I have got job offer in a small IT company, and my position is web developer. They would like to apply the work permit for me.
I have got the degree from London Metropolitan University. (http://www.londonmet.ac.uk/) but I didn't recieve it in UK. I studied in a college in my country which joins with London Metropolitan Uni. When I finished and graduated, the degree is from London Metropolitan Uni. Is it gonna work?
I also heard that the job needs to be advertise properly. I found my job on gumtree.com website. They didn't advertise it anywhere else. Is that true? If it is, advertising on gumtree site is valid?
What documents do I need to provide? What is the best way to apply work permit?

Thank you in advance
Best Regard

I don't understand what you mean by saying you are eligable for a work permit, could you explain?

Anyway, advertising on gumtree wouldn't be sufficent.
I am not, and cannot, offer legal advice to particular people. I can only discuss general areas of immigration law.

People should always consider obtaining professional advice about their own particular circumstances.

Ah, I see what you mean.

Advertising on gumtree won't be enough. There are rules about how and where the job must be advertised. The company (it's a company which applies for the work permit, not the employee) must show that they complied with the advertising rules and that no EEA national qualified to do the job applied.

I don't know enough about the job to say - is it a job that is likely to have no other applicants if properly advertised?

IT isn't a shortage catagory.

Forget about advertising, etc. It is not your job. The first thing you need to do is find an employer who want to apply work permit for U, as U might apreciate that it is the prospective employer and not U need to file up the work permit application.
