Benefits for Partner of Full time Student

Post by saqibmalik_123PK » Mon Dec 23, 2013 6:46 pm

Can any body tell me what benefits a full time student partner can get? The circumstances are as follows:

Husband/Partner doing full time post graduate ( Masters).
We are responsible for 3 kids aged 9, 6 and 2 years
I am not working as I look after kids, especially the youngest one.

Can I claim working tax credits with 16 hours/ week work ( I am 40 yrs old)?
Can I claim JSA? if yes how many minimum hours I would have to show my availability for work? 16 hours ( because I am caring for kids)?

Please let me know if I can claim any other sort of help towards living?

As you had a KOL req ILE visa I assume you're settled and British, or at least settled.

Use the Benefits calculator (click).. And wanderer, it's not always a need for a person to have ILR or BC to claim benefits.

Amber! this benefit advisor does not take into account the fact that
1) I have to take care of children
2) My spouse is not available for work because he is full time student.

Do I qualify for working tax credits with 16 hours / week work or I would have to work at least 24 hours / week? also if I am not working how many hours I would have to be available for work? 16 hrs ( because of children responsibilities)? or 40 hours. Thanks for help

Your husbands university will have an advice service who should be able to give him advice on what benefits you are entitled to. He may also be eligible to apply for a university hardship fund.
