FLR(M) Application Questions

Hello! I am an American citizen in the UK on a Volunteer visa (I work for a UK charity) and was recently married to my British man 15 May, 2007. We are now applying for Further Leave to Remain and I am very confused about the proof of relationship bit.

I don't see anywhere on the application where we are required to provide any proof other than my spouse's payslips and bank statements, etc. There's no mention of proof of his rental of flat, our bills in both names, etc. And also there's no mention of needing to supply letters and cards, phone bills, etc. proving our relationship, and yet I see people saying they've sent all of these things in with their applications. What is up with that?

Also, is it smarter to pay the extra and go in person to make the application, or is it alright to just send it by post? (My visa expires August 20!)

If you are already married, any other proof of relationship other than the Marriage Certificate is not a mandatory requirement while applying with the FLR(M). That bit will come up in 2 years time when it will be the reign of the SET(M) to do its bit to bother you.

Whether to do it by post or in person, its entirely your call. In person applications does have its perk of not having to obsess about the state of your application, if you can put aside the extra pounds.

About the money stuff though, about how much money will my spouse need to have for them to feel that he could sufficiently support me? As I said, at the moment I am a volunteer so only receive enough to support my basic needs per week, so it is totally up to him, and he is a Minister of Religion with an extra 30 hour per week job. Basically, he would make enough money to support us, but only just...until I'm able to get a job (with my Visa), which should be alright, as I have a Bachelor's degree in Education.

Am I worrying too much about being refused? I think I am stressing over it too much...but the thought of £400 going down the drain and having to be away from my husband for months is a bit scary.
