Covering letter - Child benefit - Recent ILR

Post by johnsam1000 » Fri Nov 22, 2013 3:52 pm

Recently I've got ILR (10yr). My wife and children are in dependent visa(PBS).
I'm trying to apply for the child benefit. As said in this forum, I need to send a covering letter stating that my wife is still under visa and the benefit should be considered on myself - single parent ( though my wife lives with me).

Anybody having a proper covering letter template on this regard to send?
if so, please share it.

Thank you

You do not need a covering letter for Child Benefit. Just make sure your are the primary applicant.

When will the start pay normally? Will I get any letters regarding it?

Yes, it can be backdated to the time you were granted ILR up to a max. of 3 months. It usually takes ~4 weeks from the time documents are returned.

I've started receiving the child benefit for my 2 children now. I've a doubt, since my children were not born here and are still in their (PBS Dependent) Visa, it says "no recourse to public funds", will it be alright to get the child benefit?

Yes, you're claiming benefit, not them. Apply for tax credits as well.

Hi dk2011,

I sent the following documents

Children passports (Original)
Children Birth Certificates (Original , since they were born outside of UK)
My Resident Permit Card (Copy)
My Passport (Copy, not all pages just first and last essential pages)

and a
Self addressed special delivery envelope (which they used and send those documents back to me)

Hope this helps!
