Germany Work and residence permit

Hi,

I am from India Delhi,India and got a job offer from a company in Germany and got my offer letter.I am a IT engineer.I need to apply for Entry Visa for myself and my wife.And after arriving in Germany i need to apply for work permit for myself and residence permit for myself and my wife.
Can you please share the knowledge about the procedure and In how much time i can get Entry Visa in India from the date of successful application?

The company applies for the Work Permit, not you.

If it is granted you are then issued with a single-entry Schengen visa to Germany where you exchange it at the local auslanderbehorde for the actual work permit.

That was case in 2007, might have changed!
