Jury servce

Post by speaker40 » Tue Jan 28, 2014 12:43 pm

HI Respected Seniors

I received my Indefinite on 15.01.14 (married to british citizen) and applied for naturalisation on 23.01.14 via Bexley council
received jury service letter yesterday 27.01.14

it says on the application you may not be eligible to do it if you have an outstanding application with the UKBA?

does naturalisation application exempts me from doing the jury service this time or shall i fill the form and send it?

Hopefully i will get my approval before the jury date which is March 24th

any reply would be highly appreciated

regards

Applying for nationality should have no bearing it means outstanding immigration applications but you're settled.

I thought I'd respond to this thread though I relalise it's over a year since it was posted, as I too received a Jury Summons a couple of weeks ago and received a different response on my eligibility.

When I enquired about my eligibility to participate, mentioning my current status (UK settled, applying for Naturalisation as a BC in March 2015), I was asked to complete the form with a note, explaining that I would be applying for Naturalisation. I did this, and today received a reply back stating I would not qualify for Jury Duty due to this reason and therefore the Jury summons has now been withdrawn. I take this to mean that a outstanding Home Office application for Naturalisation disqualifies you from Jury Service (as would have qualified under all other criteria that was mentioned as required).

Just thought I'd share this in the event it helps someone else in the future.

It should not disqualify you. But given that the rules for jury service can be sketchy they've perhaps erred with caution. You could dispute this if you really want to serve as a juror.

The contact details are - jurysummoning@hmcts.gsi.gov.uk

Thanks Amber. Due to some changes that have happened, I will now not be able to participate over the jury service time period mentioned, therefore I will not dispute this... I'm sure my time will come again.

I am however curious as to whether there is a official reference you could point me to, which would confirm that a outstanding naturalisation application should not disqualify someone from serving?

I take it that your point is, an outstanding naturalisation application does not fall under the same category as an outstanding immigration application? Hence this should not disqualify the person.
