'No benefits claim' confirmation letter by DWP?

Post by Aleccia » Thu Feb 06, 2014 7:45 pm

*I hope I'm posting this is the right thread, sorry if not, I wasn't sure which is the best!!*

I will soon be applying for my child's British Passport under the grounds that I am an EEA national exercising treaty rights for the last 5 years.
The Passport Service have asked for a confirmation letter by the Department of Work and Pensions which should confirm that I have not been on the benefit system in the last five years.
I have been on the DWP website and there is no general enquiries contact option, you either contact jobcentreplus or the pensions department.
I've also searched this forum a lot and found a few people who said they contacted DWP and Jobcentreplus and they refused to issue such letter.

Anyone had any experience with this, is there a solution??

for some reason, that's the advice the Passport Office adviceline is giving over the phone. I would just ignore that and submit the documents proving treaty rights for 5 years (prioir to the birth). There is no need for a letter from DWP.

Citizenship (adults, children, passport)
EEA (EEA FP, RC, PR, Surinder Singh)

thank you for your response Jambo!

It was actually in writing! As well as prove that I have had ILR before child's birth which is strange as I would never have ILR as EEA national!

I can prove treaty rights with P60s etc but how will they know I haven't been getting any benefits? Is there any other document I could provide instead to cover for this?

Just send 5 P60s prior to the birth and/or letter from employer confirming your employment dates. That would be enough.

HI Aleccia,

I'm in the same situation as you. Can you please let me know if you managed to get a passport for your child without that letter? Also, did you have to get an ILR certification or where bank statements, P60s etc. enough?

Thanks a lot.

Hi there!
Was wondering as well what was the outcome of your child's application? I am in the same situation currently, never got any housing benefits whatsoever and I have already sent them 5 years f financial evidence prior my child's birth.

Thanks for your replies! :D

HI. In 2014 I applied my baby daughter first British passport. Sent all the documents needed.
I got a letter from Passport Office requesting a letter from DWP showing that I was not getting benefit.
This benefits was just related to DWP benefits. Housing benefit, Work and Child tax credit, Child benefit and some others is not a DWP benefit.
So I went to the Jobcenter with the Passport Office letter and asked for this letter.
After 20 working days, I received the letter from DWP showing no benefits was claimed during the past 5 years. Sent this letter to Passport Office and 1 week after, I got my baby daughter's passport.
Hope this help.
