Tier 2 Visa

Hello Friends,

My PSW visa is going to expiry on may 09 2014. I am switching in to the Tier 2 (General) one of my friend is telling to me if I apply for Tier 2 visa after April 5 2014 i will get 5 years Visa At a time(instead of 3 years) is this true, i am confused can anyone help me on this.
