How to ... pls advice

Post by Bucki » Fri Feb 21, 2014 6:27 pm

Hello

It is my very first topic on this forum
and I do apologies if I posted in the wrong section!

Right, here we go :)

I am on my final year studying Bsc Computer Networks in South Yorkshire - Sheffield
Few months back, I met a lovely lady back home and been in contact since then ...
surely I met her and her family & also her family met my family etc etc,

in simple terms, we love each other and will get engaged this summer & marriage will be in summer 2015

NOW THE PROBLEM & ISSUE

With the new UK regulations, I must earn at least £18,600 per year (after tax)
for me being applicable to consider a fiancee/spouse visa settlement.

Question:

How am I supposed to get such a high payment ???
We all know that every year thousands of young people get a degree and over 80% of them end up
working in a low paid workplace e.g. supermarkets & warehouse etc.

How will I be able to get over 18,600 in a such work place???
Yes, just because I get the degree - no-body will guarantee me a decent job

At the end of the day, that is why I am studying - to have a better job + payment
and NOT to end up in a warehouse .... but reality is - unfortunately many students end up
working for Tesco / Asda / Next etc just cos there is a shortfall for people with a degree.

Anyway ... in my opinion, by making such a high earning criteria
you are automatically and systematically excluding anybody else from getting married (outside UK)
if u got a low income ... wow well done Britain - seems like you rather prefer single mums and dads in UK
rather then healthy growing families who are the children of the future - UK future.

The requirement of £18600 can be from you and your spouse, not just from you. Or you or your spouse or both of you have saving of £62500 then you met the requirement.

let me get this right ...

if me and her have saving of 62.500 then I can apply ??
Otherwise, both of our salary together needs to be over 18.000 a year

Question:

How would her wage count towards mine, when her wage is paid back home and not in UK??
Lets say she works back home ... and both of our payment together add up over 18.000 per year

then I make the application BUT she will be coming to UK
how will her wage back home count towards that?? I dont get it !!

confused here

It's more complicated. The best advise would be if you can show 62,500 in your account

But you may be lucky. Soon there is court hearing ( next month ) . Hope it's a good news for people like you

haha if I had 62K saving .. I would count myself as being RICH :p
My grandpa left me some "land" back home , which I possibly could sell and get about 70K for it.

But even if I do that! when I import that money to UK
the immigration will kick the shit out of me with TAXES and hassle me with "HOW WHEN WHY etc" lol

On other-hand, it will be difficult to earn over 18Thousand per year with an average job
unless I get a graduate-schema which starts at 20K per year - but again, these types of jobs are hard to get.

Majority of graduate students end up working at low-wage jobs
cos the government is not putting much money/investments into graduates schema etc.

I am not discriminating anyone with low wage but if you spend ur life studying and get a degree
ideally, u should get a better paid job and not end up at supermarkets. Not the ideal world we live in, I know!!

Anyway ... I am hoping that this court takes place and that someone with JUSTICE will realize
that with the current job wage , it is hard to get 18K per year - and that most of those low paid workers
get excluded from being able to bring their wife + kids + family to UK just cos of some RICH labors think of themselves

cheers

That's only correct for inside the UK applications, not for entry clearance.

A case of tough love.

I think you should:

a) Take a deep breath and calm yourself a little
b) Consider all options if this lady is the one for you
c) Not place too much hope in the court case going on - the appeal is on a very specific point about the financial requirements. The original judge found that the home office was allowed to set a minimum income - but the appeal is on the effect of the combination of the rules (such as the minimum amount of savings AND income for example).

What do I mean by b?

I work in IT - and I've worked on network administration and then development, architecture and now product management.

Within the IT triangle of Reading/Cambridge/London - there are a HECK of a lot of IT jobs going. Yes - there are a lot of applicants - but there are a lot of jobs too. A quick search on jobserve for 'junior network administrator' UK wide has found me over 5,000 listed jobs, none on the first page of results are less than £23k.

So if this lady is important - you'll move for a job.

You're worrying before you start. You're doing a suitable degree in a high demand field.

@ MPH80

Yes I know IT job usually starts at MINIMUM with 18K and above BUT
reality is that majority won't get a chance to work what they studied for.

and YES I am worrying ... I am not 18 years old u know.
surely I spend a lot of my years in studying and I be damn crying if I dont get an IT job role.

at the end of the day, what have I studied for ?? do u get me :) ???

Besides, all the vacancies who looking for IT guys
they want many years experience in that particular field ... right, and I spend many years in UNI
so how can I have degree and many years experience in CCNA or whatever they ask.

It is like they wanting someone with ALL inclusive.
My only chance is to get an IT GRADUATE SCHEME ... otherwise I be screwed :(

By the way,. are there any vacancies going on for Students at your place???

And yet every single person I know who was on my CS degree who wants it has an excellent job in IT ... I also know several people who dropped out who have excellent jobs in IT and one in particular who never studied IT (english grad!) before who's now architecting the IP network of a major communications provider.

The market is still booming for IT and on my little jobserve search, I found at least 3 jobs on the first page alone specifically stating they were after a graduate rather than experience.

That's why I'm saying calm down. The jobs are out there. They might not be next door to your house - but they are out there.

Actually - we do have them yes - but not in the UK as that office is basically sales and marketing.

@ MPH80

Mate, wish it was as easy as saying stuff :)
I have had many interviews in the past ... and not successful yet.

I am over 30, not in young age anymore
if I dont get an IT job soon, nobody will employ an "old" student lol

At minutes, things going through my head and I am panicking and worrying :(

The defeatful mentality that there are no jobs is a misconception that I'm seriously bored hearing about.

As a guy working in the IT/Programming industry for years, I recommend building up a portfolio or blog website right now, today, this minute, and start giving back to an industry that is heavily based on opinions, user testing, trouble-shooting etc.

Something like this to show on a CV, which any decent employer will take time to scan over will instantly put you a cut above the rest and increase your chances of an interview.
