I just booked the interview for me and my wife without receiving any letters - all good, however the guy on the phone said that we should bring them wit us on the day. What if we do not get them by that time? Do they really require it?

I booked appointment without letter the person who book appointment told i don't need to bring letter only need to bring email sent for confirmation of interview.I don't think you need letter asking you to book appointment that is not relevant just print email confirming interview date,time and reference no.

Little note to help others who are about to apply passport, DO NOT USE CHECK AND SEND Service they know as little as we know from guidance booklet.

All you need is two identical pictures and make sure one countersigned by referee at the back and other plain picture nothing written on the background make sure it doesnt even a have a single line or any mark or name written at the back of second picture, most recent uncancelled passport no need to send two or three previous passports that has your first entry stamp and naturalistion certificate.

If your referee makes any mistake in his section make sure you have extra signature on the left or right of the amended line otherwise HMPO will return your application.

I would highly recommend to use online as HMPO use letter recognition software to scan your hand written form and delays can be possible if computer reads 02 instead of 01.

Another good reason to use online is you can use A4 envelope to send your certificate without folding it and include return A4 envelope.

Few things I wanted to mention, in case it helps anyone:

1. Assuming you paid for secure delivery, don't waste your time asking HMPO for tracking numbers. Just fill in the form at DX's website asking them to search their records - they responded to me by email in a couple of hours saying it (my original documents) is out for delivery, even when HMPO said they didn't have a tracking number for me! Go figure...

2. Don't wait for invitation letter - completely pointless wait. Just use your reference number (one from post office if you used check and send). I'd say call them to book an interview as soon as you get documents back. My letter didn't even come for 5 days after I had already booked the interview.

3. Don't ask for different delivery address unless you absolutely must - it will cause delays for sure, regardless of what statements/letters you provide. See my post here.
