I was able to get a local UKVCAS appointment in less than two weeks, which should give me time to upload the documents. Cost was £60 (middle of weekday appointment, 30-min slot). There is a large warning on the website but it didn't affect my ability to reserve an appointment.

The only issue with the online form is that one can only enter 30 trips of leaving the UK in the previous 5 years. (I have been out of the country 58 times for 280 days total, holiday/family travel only), so I need to upload additional time/dates as a separate record.
