British Passport application processing timelines (only)

Return of documents and new passport came in different envelopes at the same time. They tried to deliver return of documents on 9 Dec and they tried to deliver passport first time on 10 Dec. I called dx and asked for both to be delivered today. My passport has the same date as my interview so it seems like they printed it after the interview.

I'm very pleased with how quickly this process went. Thanks so much for everyone who posted on here as it really helps to calm the nerves reading others experiences. Good luck to those who are waiting. Happy Holidays!

I know the lead time is 6 weeks for new applications. However can we check the progress considering lot of applications are being processed quicker? Or should we contact the DX courier to check if they have received any documents?

You can call Adviceline on 0300 222 0000 and go through the options applicable to you; on the last one press "0" as if you were waiting longer than 3- 6 weeks; you will get a very helpful person on the other end that would be able to track your application in their system and tell you exactly where it is in the process. All you need is your Check & Send application number for them to be able to check. I called Adviceline 2 days after I received a text confirming receipt of my application by IPS, and they told me that my application has been already reviewed and the interview letter was sent a day ago. They are also able to advise if there are any holds on the application, etc.

I've received my BP today but I need my Malaysian PP back to travel due to a sudden family bereavement but IPS has not dispatched it back to me yet. I have called DX and they said they don't have any documents for me for delivery and also said they pass any docs for me to Royal Mail due to my location (Inverness). I called IPS and they said the courier has not picked up my supporting docs yet. My timeline is: Submission 02/12, Interview 10/12, Receipt of BP 11/12. Any help is much appreciated.

Why don't you travel with ur british passport? If you have received it already

Because Malaysia does not allow dual nationality and I must surrender my Malaysian passport before travelling with my British Passport.

All done! Everything was much quicker than anticipated. Applied for BC on Sept 1st, got approval dated Oct 31st, ceremony was on Dec 1st, and passport was received on Dec 11th.

Passport only took 7 days (5 business days) from application being received by IPS to holding my brand new passport in my hands.

IPS stands for Identity & Passport Services.
They send you sms.
Sometimes no sms, and you receive a letter for interview.
Usually 1-3 days after sending application they receive it.

1 - do we need to send our current passport only or send all expired passports ????
Just your current passport

If your answer is just current passport then I got one more question - if someone just renew his passport n that passport doesn't contain any entry n exit stamp in that case does he need to send his last expired passport got entry n exit stamp . No need for entry stamp- Just current not expired passport.

2- do we need to give our grandparents details ( full name , DOB, placed of birth n marriage dare etc) ???
No need for grand parents details


3- if someone got 2 addresses then do we need to give both on application . Why 2 addresses? Only your main residential address.

Very impressed with the Passport Office; they have been incredibly efficient. Interview was straight forward, but a lot of detailed questions are asked - so be prepared.

Appointments can be booked by calling 0300 222 1000

However, you have to have the Reference number for your interview appointment (included on the interview letter and it is different from the application number). They will not let you book an appointment without the interview number.
