Hi everyone,

I am going to apply for my first British passport. I need your help to clear my confusion. On IPS website the following statement is written:

"Your countersignatory should be a professional person or a person of good standing in the community."

If you notice they have used the word OR in above statement. Does it mean we can use either a professional person or any british person (not professional according to their given options) who knows me for 2 years as a counter signatory?

The term "person of good standing" is subjective but in general the countersignatory must have qualifications and credentials that are able to be verified. According to gov.uk, they should be someone "it is believed will not risk a career or reputation by knowingly making an untrue statement in completing the countersigning section of an application form."

Modabasi! I have gone through this forum and 50% posts are based on discussion. If you notice there are so many people on this forum who are doing discussion and getting their reply. I dont see any reason why I dont get any help and got a rude reply from you that this is only for time line. I think you cant see those posts which are being shared for discussion purpose. OK I went to the interview today and I am glad it all went fine. There is nothing to worry about and they just want to confirm you are who you say you are. Just the same usual questions about your accounts, addresses, family etc. Make sure you know your area well where you live as I was asked quite a few questions about my vicinity. Interview lasted in less than ten minutes and then we had a chit chat on terrible weather (rain) and shared our thoughts about when summer will arrive.

Can anyone advice on what other number to possibly call aside from the 0300 Number, I did not take a copy of my passport application number on the phone and its now been 6 weeks since I applied and the 0300 line couldn't help me but told me someone will call me back but nothing yet. I am calling since last week i.e. 22-04-2014 to 0300. Every time they used to tell me the same thing that I will received a call from Liverpool Office within next 48 Hours. But no call from Liverpool Office and the Passport Application Status is same i.e. (Under Examination).

It varies..I got my documents before my interview.
Ideally you should get it before your interview.

It varies..I got my documents before my interview.

too early to say, has it been 10 working days though? if not you need to wait for 10 working days and if you had read some earlier post, you will notice that you are not alone, see my timeline about, am guessing i applied well before you? Just like you they couldn't find any information and they advised me to write a letter to customer service because I dint have the application reference.

@dadegeer - it does happen within the HO unfortunately and the lady that called me was quite panicky when I said I am really furious. I couldn't vote today at my embassy in our country's elections because of this loss.

She has undertaken to continue looking but I am not going to get my hopes up. The hassles of sorting this out is massively inconvenient.

Count me in as well in that pain..I received my docs yesterday in a small envelope and as I took it out of the letter box I could feel my passports are inside ...before opening that envelope I was thinking to myself that why did they only send my passports? when will they send my naturalization certificate and then I got the shock when I found my "the-then" shinny naturalization certificate folded twice like a piece of sh*t! like you I don't know who to blame for this..maybe they think what's the importance of this cert if you are getting the passport? but for me this certificate is very important as it is a proof of me getting naturalized.

At least you guys got yours, even if creased etc. They have lost my certificate and my foreign passport, which is really infuriating!!

I'd been seriously Pi**ed if I were you...but I have a feeling they will get yours as I can't imagine that such an important department of government can actually misplace documents...

too early to say, has it been 10 working days though? if not you need to wait for 10 working days and if you had read some earlier post, you will notice that you are not alone, see my timeline about, am guessing i applied well before you?
