You only need to take the interview letter that you received.

I called the 0300 number and they can not find anything at all about me

That is very unusual ... how can they misplace such important documents? I am sure they will find it soon.

Hi everyone,

I am going to apply for my first British passport. I need your help to clear my confusion. On IPS website the following statement is written:

"Your countersignatory should be a professional person or a person of good standing in the community."

If you notice they have used the word OR in above statement. Does it mean we can use either a professional person or any british person (not professional according to their given options) who knows me for 2 years as a counter signatory?

HMPO Peterborough office called to say they have lost my supporting documents. I am suppose to vote in the home country elections tomorrow so can't even do that now because I don't have my passport.

I will report it at my consular next week. The lady said she will call me again on Friday and in the meantime she will continue looking for it.

I told her that as they have such close links with HO, that she can contact them to issue a replacement certificate and I will sort out my passport. I refuse to pay for the certificate replacement and then have to wait however long for HMPO to refund me, when they can contact Liverpool directly to issue replacement.

Can anyone advice on what other number to possibly call aside from the 0300 Number, I did not take a copy of my passport application number on the phone and its now been 6 weeks since I applied and the 0300 line couldn't help me but told me someone will call me back but nothing yet. My timeline shown below once again.

Interview booked for Thursday 1st May and I have received all my documents (old passport, Naturalisation cert.) today 29/04.
Documents were not personally handed over to me (even though I paid for Special delivery) and were placed in my letter box dispatched by DX Secure from Heathrow.

Update. All documents received after 2 weeks of panicking, many calls and correspondence (all in vain as they can just tell me my application is being processed, even though I now realised I called on the day that my documents were actually sent out!)

Am getting worried as I haven't heard back re my application. Have called several times to enquire about it, and all they can tell me is that the application is with the examiners. A gentleman told me that if I haven't heard back, then all is in order and it should be with me in 6 weeks. I need to travel 1 May, and really need my passport back before then. 6 weeks will be up 23 April and would be great if I get back my supporting documents by then, but worried if I don't. Especially as I have not received any communications including need for an interview. Another shout out to anyone who has applied first time from abroad and can share their experience please?

Update: called on 3 April to enquire, as am planning local travel and wanted to plan around my interview dates. I was told that they can only tell that it is with the examiners in Liverpool office, and not sure how long it would take. I need my original passport back before 1 May.

Has anyone else applied for first passport whilst abroad? How long did it take you to get the first interview and subsequently to get the passport if you pass the interview?

Hi all,

I wonder if someone can help me, as I'm applying for my first British passport this Saturday 3rd May.

I have two questions:

1- is it quicker to apply by myself or to use the passport check and send?
2- what is the average processing time for obtaining the first passport following naturalisation? As I'm going for a holiday on 9th June.

We both have interview on same day i.e. 15/04/2014

Interview was for 20 minutes each.

My Husband received passport on 17/04/2014 (Passport Printed On: 15/04/2014)

I am calling daily to the IPS Office and Liverpool but same response i.e. Under Examination.

I don't know how much time they will take to print and delivered.

Anybody gone or going with the same situation please advised.

Gongrats Alex, good luck to you too.

To others facing "red tape" issues at local post offices, take guidance with you as a proof. It comes with application pack anyway. If they are in doubt, insist them calling IPS. I like to argue too but sometimes it just does take you anywhere.
