Spelling error on P60

Post by Sahib » Sat Apr 14, 2012 3:43 pm

I received my P60 end of year certificate this morning via post and noticed the speeling mistake on my first name.

Can anyone please suggest what can be done? Is it easy enough for HR to replace a new one with the correct name?

I need to use this for my Tier 1 extension application.

Thanks in advance.

You've pretty much answered your own question there Sahib! Just speak with your HR and see if they can (or will) do anything for you.

Without wishing to cause unnecessary panic, since the P60 is the counterfoil of a form (the P14) which is filed by your employer with HMRC, do expect your HR people to say 'no'.

However even if they do say no then please don't panic! So long as you inform UKBA (be it proactively or if they notice and ask) and make a note somewhere or get your employer to provide an explanatory letter then I can't see an issue. People do make mistakes so I'd be surprised if this was the first time this has ever happened with a Tier 1 application.

Thnaks Matthew for your reply.

I did speak to HR and said they can not replace it with a new one, as you already said in your reply.

I will ask my manager to give me a letter explaining the error and confirm my correct name.

This was an extra source confirming my income anyway as i already have payslips and bank statements. What i will do, i will take this with me along wtih covering letter from my manager and will only give it to CW if asked.

Thanks again for your kind reply.

No problems Sahib. The main thing is that you are approaching this with a calm head and that you are also covering all bases.

All the best!

If you use the P60 with an error in name, and the NI number and the address is same as your bank statement and payslips, and the error is explained in cover letter, there shouldn't be a problem.
The question is... to be or not to be....
