ILR for Child

Post by HKDK » Sun Apr 15, 2012 7:48 am

Hi All,

I would really appreciate if you could guide me on the below:

I came to UK on work permit in May 2007 and got my Tier 1 in September 2009. Next month I would be eligible for ILR. My child was born in UK a year before.

So while I am applying for mine and my wife's ILR do I need to apply for my child as well?

OR

Can I directly apply for British passport for my child, if yes then when?

Many Thanks in advance

Kind Regards

After your ILR, your UK born child can register as British Citizen irrespective of his immigration status.

Many Thanks for your response and sending me related links for the post.

Based on what you said does that mean than as of now I can apply for mine and my wife's IRL no need for my child. And once I get my ILR then immediately I can apply for British citizenship for my child even though I am on ILR.

Please can you confirm the above.

Many Thanks

This is correct. For a UK born child, you can apply immediately after ILR or any time until he is 18.

Be aware that the process (including a passport) can take 3-4 months. As the child will not have a valid visa any more, he should not travel until he gets the passport. If you have plans to travel, include him in your ILR application.
