British Citizenship for my familly

Post by alinakalina » Tue Apr 17, 2012 8:34 am

Hello, i'm Polish national, holding EEA1 certificate, as well as my wife(she is not working, but looking after 2 children, which they born in UK),
I'm working.
My question is,
when i want to apply for BC, so my wife can also apply ,in same way, as she apply for EEA1 as dependent?
Or she need to work here 5 years then she will be able to apply?

your answers would be appreciate..

Is she also an EEA national/ polish?

Does she meet the requirement of having comprehensive medical insurance (outside of the UK NHS)?

How long have you both lived in the UK?

I suggest you read Q1 & Q2 in the sticky FAQ - most common questions.

For EEA nationals PR status is acquired automatically after 5 years of exercising treaty rights. In your case, from when you had WRS (if employed) or started to work (if self-employed).

To apply for naturalisation, you can apply on the 6th anniversary of exercising treaty rights (1 years after the automatic PR).

There is no need to apply for PR confirmation and you can apply directly for BC although it is worth making the PR application as it is free and will highlight any issues if exist without risking the £850 application fee for naturalisation.

Your wife can apply by her own for BC if she meets the requirements. She doesn't need you to apply for it as well.

Your wife doesn't need to work in the UK. Your employment is enough. There is also no need for CSI (insurance) as you are working.
