Child Dependent on Student Visa

Post by evikrantg » Tue Apr 17, 2012 3:23 pm

My sister is an architect and is looking to do a specialised masters in construction technology from UK. She has looked at the relevant course and found the right one for her. So she will come here on student visa (Tier 4 General).

She has a five years old son that she wants to bring along as dependent. Can someone please advice, if she can bring her son as dependent? If yes, can she put him to school in UK for the time she is here and register him at NHS. I tried reading UKBA site but couldn't find specific details.

Best regards,
Vikrant

She can bring her son is she is sponsored by a higher education institution on a course at NQF level 7 or above which lasts 12 months or more. Schooling would, in any case, be compulsory and there would be open access to the NHS.

Definition of a higher education institution:

A higher education institution (HEI) is a 'recognised body' (meaning that it has its own UK degree-awarding powers), or a body in receipt of public funding as a HEI.
Institutions (including further education colleges) which receive some public funding to deliver higher education courses do not fall within this definition of an HEI.
You can find a list of designated bodies on the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills website.

Alternatively, if you tell the forum the course and college, we can tell you if it qualifies.

Many thanks. Really appreciate your help here.

She is contemplating between
1) Kingston University or
2) Glasgow Caledonian University

and one of the following two courses:
1) Management in Construction (MSc-1 yr course) or
2) Real Estate Management (MSc-1 to 2 yr course)

Do these universities and courses qualify under HEI and NQF Level 7?

Again, many thanks for your time.

Best regards,
Vikrant
