English Language Requirement

Post by JoeMellow » Tue Apr 17, 2012 11:10 pm

Today I received the email concerning my visa application to settle with my wife in the U.K. One of the things its said was that i was missing my English language test requirement. I was born in Colombia, but raised in the states my entire life. English is my first language... I was wondering if a high school/G.E.D diploma is good enough as the requirement? This is exactly what they replied to me :
" An original English language test certificate in speaking and listening from an English language test provider approved by the Secretary of State for these purposes which clearly shows your name and the qualification obtained (which must meet or exceed level A1 (Basic Speaker) of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR)."

I really dont want to spend $185 dollars to prove I speak English, so I am hoping the diploma is good enough.

no - your high school diploma does not meet the requirement. unless you have a degree taught in the English language you will need to take a test on the list of approved language tests. Jumping through the hoops is the name of the game. See here:
