Visit Visa extension before expiry

Hi

Please advice me of the best approach to my situation. I am planning to apply for visit visa for my mother-in-law who will stay with us for first two months of her inital visit. We want her to join us again for three months in September when her initial visa will be still valid for one month. Is it possible that she can apply for visit visa again before the current visa expires?
