Unsure of UK citizenship status - born in the UK before 1983

Hi,

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could shed some light on my citizenship status.

I was born in the UK in 1981 (with a UK issued birth certificate) but hold a Malaysian passport and have been staying in Malaysia. My parents are Malaysians and are not foreign diplomats/consul.

Am I still a UK citizen?

If so, my son was just recently born in the UK (I am currently doing my post graduate studies); is he too a UK citizen?
