Early completion of my course (phd) and tier4 visa issue

Post by angervisa111 » Wed Apr 25, 2012 10:25 am

Hi all,

currently I have tier 4 student visa for my doctoral study at a reputable university in the UK.

I was lucky enough to complete my phd study on Jan 2012, which is 8 months earlier than my initial course deadline (Sep 2012). My current Tier 4 visa expire on Jan 2014.

"Can I stay in the UK until Jan 2014?"
or
"Do I have to leave the UK within 4 months (May 2012) after my completion or 4 months (Jan 2013) after the initial course deadline on Sep 2012, considering the early completion of my study on Jan 2012?"

The immigration rules are not clear. Any advice helpful. thanks.

What happens if a student’s course ends early?
322. We will limit the student’s permission to stay to 60 days if his/her course ends earlier than expected. This may be, for example, if the student’s Tier 4 sponsor cancels his/her place on the course, or if the student finishes the course early.
