Tier 1 dependant visa due for renewal passport expired

Post by satyaca » Thu Apr 26, 2012 10:26 am

Hi All,

I have a very peculiar situation. My spouse and mine Tier 1 (general) Extension visa is due for renewal in 2 weeks just now I found that my spouse passport has expired and it will take 2-3 months to renew. I know I can submit application without current passport ticking the option (Expired-Sent to national authorities)

My position is if I submit the expired passport will the reject the visa. technically the passport will not be with national authorities even if I do not enclose it with my wife's application.

Very much appreciate your help folks

Thanks, my original question is can visa be renewed based on submitted expired passport. The application form says "Current Passport" not "Current Valid Passport". However If I tick submitted to national authorities for renewal, Do I need to provide some other document. My lawyer tells me to get a letter from Pakistan Embassy. Not sure if embassy will give a letter. Trying to call them, No response

My first suggestin will be to call UKBA customer service 08706067766 and see what they suggest you in this situation.

The 2nd suggestion will be to go to Birmingham or Glagow to get manual passpot in same day and then you can apply for machine readable anytime but this will mean you have to carry 3 passports unless you are happy with manual passport.

3rd suggestion will be, to give all details of expired passprot in previous passports column and mention applied for renewal under current passport column (do not say returned to authorities beacuse they will know you do not return Pakistani passports to authorities).

I think when you apply for machine readable passport, the embassey or authorities will give you some sort of proof with tracking no etc, you might be able to explain this in covering letter alongwith renewal reference no. You can also ask UKBA if you can mention these details under ' Current Passport or Travel Documents ' column on application form.

These are my personnel suggestions and not on the basis of experience.

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to put an update to the situation. I did submit my wife's application with copies of expired passport while her passport renewal was I process.

Once UKBA received the application they sent acknowledgement of receipt of application and wrote that a case worker would be assigned to it.

I received an email followed by a letter from UKBA after 5 weeks of application that in my application the passport is missing and i must submit the passport in 7 days time else my application will be returned invalid.

Fortunately My wife's renewed passport had come by that time and I did send to them following which they send Biometric letter.

At present the status is that we have given biometric and awaiting decision.
