Belgian citizen marries to the citizen of Uzbekistan

Post by asajo » Fri Apr 27, 2012 2:56 am

Dear all,
if a Belgian citizen gets married to the citizen of Uzbekistan
in Uzbekistan, what documents needed from Belgian citizen?
And if they want to live in Belgium what documents will be required
from married couple and how long does it take to get visa for a citizen of Uzbekistan to come to Belgium?
Any suggestions appreciated.

When getting married in Uzbekistan, this depends entirely on Uzbek rules.

The (Uzbek) marriage has to be recognised by Belgium. This usually happens by getting a >>hague apostille<<. From the wiki you can see that the hague apostille issued by Uzbekistan is not recognised by Belgium. If this information is correct, the newly-weds would have to find another solution. No idea how this could look like.

If you know no way out, the easiest way to get your status to "married" in odd cases is to get married in Cyprus (EU).

Once you are married, and Belgian authorities recognise it, the newly weds can either travel to Belgium according to >>EEA family member without Residence Card (Part 2)<<, or apply for a Schengen Visa which may not be refused.

Hope this helps.
