Self employeed and receive payments from agencies

Post by Kiddo » Tue May 01, 2012 10:16 am

Hi just help a friend to ask

She has been registered as a self employeed translator. She takes jobs from agencies and receives payments by online banking. Does she need to ask these agencies to confirm her earnings? She contacted one agency and they said they don't have company headed letter. How to cross prove her earnings? Thanks!

If your friend is self employed then she should issue invoices. The invoice payment should then (usually) match to the invoice.

These links to the government's BusinessLink website will provide more information for your friend:

I felt a honor being answered by the famous accountantMatthew, hehe.

Thanks indeed for the links provided.

I saw her invoices and I had doubt about those invoices to be honest, I asked her and she looked puzzled.

Those invoices issued by her were written on her biz titled paper which looked good, however, can she issue them as many as she would like to?? I'm not questioning her but surely people can forge them to declare the income, can't they? How to cross examine the genuity of these invoices?

 !!

Unfortunately you are right, there are people about who will look to take advantage of every aspect of business so invoice abuse is not unheard of.

However in terms of cross-checking and mitigating the risk of improper invoicing, UKBA do contact some customers to ensure the propriety of the invoice and the work carried out.

This is out of the control of your friend of course so she just needs to make sure that she acts within the Immigration Rules and the law!

All the best.
