Naturalisation Five Years requirement

Post by umeruzair » Tue May 01, 2012 4:35 pm

I am looking into the Standard requirements for naturalisation and just wondering it ask for the following,

You have been resident in the UK for at least five years (this is known as the residential qualifying period); and
been present in the UK five years before the date of your application; and
not spent more than 450 days outside the UK during the five-year period; and
not spent more than 90 days outside the UK in the last 12 months of the five-year period; and
not been in breach of the Immigration Rules at any stage during the five-year period.

In our Case I have been living in the UK since May 2007 and therefore I have completed my 5 years May 2012 howerver as I recently gained ILR I wait till 12 months before I apply and therefore I have to make sure that I will not be out of country more than 450 days.

However I got married and my wife came to UK in August 2008 so her 5 years would be completed in Auggst 2013. Is that mean we have to wait till August 2013 before we apply for it (if we want to apply together)?

Also as she is not on the dependant visa anymore therefore she has to satisfy the 450 days requirement as well?

I would be grateful for your prompt response

Hi umeruzair,

I would like to know if you applied for your wife together with your application as this is the same case for me too.

Thanks

See example of someone who made a joint application - the spouse application was refused - Naturalization Application (joint application).

I suggest you read Q2 in Citizenship FAQs - Common Questions - Read before posting.
